In the story it states that “His boyhood was naught but a blot” this shows how the poet chooses dark words like blot to show how Bill one of the two boys is acting. In the story it also states that “He was honest and bright and the teacher’s delight” Here the poet shows how Jim one of the boys is honest and nice. That’s how the poet changes his tones in the story. One piece of supporting evidence to support my claim is in the text it says "His boyhood was naught but a blot."  Showing that he believed that Bill was nothing but a bad person. Another piece of supporting evidence to support my claim is that it says "He would never amount to a thing." Showing that the poet considered him hopeless knowing full well that no one could even go near him. Showing that the poet had used a judgmental tone.
