Interested to see more about the PBIS system for behaviors on my campus. Looks like a great system!

I am big on affirmations and I believe creating a space that will grab my students attention and remind them of how special they are will be a great attribute to the classroom.

Building relationships for the subject

Building relationships I’ve noticed is very important in helping with behavior. I work with several challenging students in the general education classroom, and my relationship with them helps to redirect their behaviors. For example, I might ask how was their weekend or check up on them, which shows the student that I do care. This allows me to take students in the hallway for a conversation, or take a moment with them away from the classroom to understand what’s going on. Relationships are so important!

I love the idea of having students write the rules and making sure the expectations are explicitly stated

My school uses PBIS and earning points was one of the only things that helped motivate a particular student I had this past year!

Flexible seating works for my students who need to move; I work in specialized programs and was also flexible with shoes worn in my class. Having the student wear crocs in the classroom worked wonders and the student stopped taking shoes off all day and if he did, it was easy to get him to put them back on. So less time spent redirecting when being flexible.

Definitely using PBIS points for positive reinforcement. As well as using token charts and class rewards for a whole class reward. I also am a fan of non-verbal redirection, I used that a lot last year.

Assigning class jobs also helped my students take ownership and things run smoothly during transition because everyone had a job to do.

Building Relationships

Building Relationships is so important when you have students with challenging behaviors. I make sure that students know that I'm on their side and that they could talk to me if something frustrated them. In the case of one student I had, we built such a good relationship that those disruptive behaviors started to disappear.
