I really like how the end result of this project turned out. I was a little hesitant before adding color because I thought it might ruin the simplicity of the piece. In the past, I've always made some kind of mistake with my art. However, I've realized that those mistakes actually turned out to be quite beneficial. There are no true mistakes in art; there is no right or wrong. It's up to the artist to decide what they like and what they don't. If an artist doesn't like a specific part about their art, then they ultimately have the power to change it to how they see fit. True, there is no undo button in art or in real life, for that matter, but there is always a solution to a problem. I have definitely ameliorated my shading skills, since I only have experience shading facial features. I've never shaded anything on this large scale. Of course, there's always room for improvement, but I'm extremely content with the end result of this project. The hands and the colorful intertwining lines in the middle are meant to be the focal point of the piece. I was really good at drawing contour lines during the shading practice and I wanted to incorporate that technique into my final project. The idea to shade the hands differently from the rest of the objects in this piece came on a whim and instead of suppressing this exciting, yet risky new skill, I just went for it. Art is about making mistakes and turning those mistakes into opportunities for growth.
