  • The main purpose of the nato was to defend each other from the possibility of communist Soviet Union taking control of their nation.
  • Each candidate state must meet military, political, economic, and legal requirements that have been outlined by NATO.

  • The leader is Jean-Claude Juncker.
  • Requirements to join are known as the 'Copenhagen criteria' and include a free-market economy, a stable democracy and the rule of law, and the acceptance of all EU legislation, including of the euro.

  • The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is an organization of countries in southeast Asia set up to promote cultural, economic and political development in the region.
  • Ten southeast countries are part of ASEAN and there is one leader/ Representative from each country.
  • There are no conditions for membership other than a location in Southeast Asia and the usual principles of inter-state relations. There is no membership criteria related to the government, ideological system and orientation, economic policy, or level of development.
