1. How do these branches connect with each other in understanding human experience?

These branches of philosophy work together to help us understand the full picture of human experience. Metaphysics helps us explore the nature of reality and existence, what is real and what it means to be. Epistemology then helps us understand how we come to know that reality, by studying knowledge, belief, and truth. Logic ensures that our thinking and reasoning about reality and knowledge are valid and structured. Ethics builds on these by guiding our moral decisions and actions based on what we know and believe is real and true. Finally, Aesthetics adds another layer by allowing us to reflect on beauty, art, and meaning in life. Together, these branches create a connected system that helps us think, act, and live meaningfully.

2. Which branch do you think is the foundation of the others? Why?

I believe ethics is the foundation of the other branches because our actions and decisions as human beings are central to our everyday lives. While other branches like metaphysics and epistemology help us understand what is real and what we can know, ethics guides how we should live based on that understanding. It deals directly with questions of right and wrong, good and evil, which influence how we use our knowledge, how we reason, and even how we interpret beauty. Without ethical guidance, knowledge and logic can be misused. That’s why ethics plays a crucial and foundational role in shaping our human experience.

3. How does this activity help you see philosophy as part of everyday life?

This activity is significantly helpful in how I visualize philosophy. It made me realize that philosophy is not just abstract thinking but is present in the choices I make, the values I hold, and even the way I appreciate art or beauty. Whether I’m deciding what’s right or wrong, questioning what I believe, or trying to make sense of the world around me, I am already engaging in philosophy.

I am a person who lives through both body and spirit.

I am a person who lives through both body and spirit. I am John Boyd S. Edaga. Like the fearless Miriam Defensor Santiago, “I live and lead through both body and spirit with a mind that speaks truth, and a will that never backs down.” Her life reminds me that true strength lies not only in what we do, but in the conviction behind our actions. Every day, I strive to show up with courage, integrity, and passion. Using my body to act, and my spirit to stay grounded in what I believe is right. Whether in school, at home, or in the face of challenges, I rise above limitations by holding onto my purpose. I am more than just my physical self, I am a reflection of my values, my willpower, and my drive to live meaningfully and lead with truth.

1. How do your body and spirit work together in your everyday life?

My body allows me to show up to go to school, help my family, and work toward my goals. But it is my spirit that motivates me to do those things with passion, kindness, and integrity. When I feel tired or discouraged, it’s my inner drive that reminds me why I started. My body does the actions, but my spirit gives those actions meaning.

2. What moments in your life show that you are more than just your body?

There were times I felt weak, uncertain, or overwhelmed especially during stressful situations or personal failures. But I didn’t give up. In those moments, I realized I was more than just what I could physically do. My determination, hope, and faith helped me continue, even when my body felt like stopping. That’s when I truly felt the power of the spirit within me.

3. How do you rise above challenges or limitations as a transcendent being?

I rise above by believing that every hardship has a purpose. Instead of letting challenges define me, I use them to strengthen my character. I learn, I reflect, and I grow. I remind myself that I am not limited by my circumstances, I am guided by what I believe in, just like Miriam Defensor Santiago never let critics or sickness stop her from fighting for truth.

4. How do these ideas help you understand your identity better?

They help me see that who I am is not just what I do, but why I do it. My identity is a blend of strength and purpose, action and belief. Understanding that I live through both body and spirit reminds me that I have the power to make a difference not just by being present, but by being true to who I am inside.

REFLECTING MY ROLE IN SOCIETY

1. What is one thing I have done that contributes positively to my community, school, or family?

As we faced a state of calamity here in Cebu that affected a lot of people, with a magnitude of 6.9 that hit the entire Cebu particularly in Bogo and northern parts, as an SSLG President, I pushed in my school to have a donation drive to help not just within our school but also in other communities. Being a leader doesn’t mean I will only do things in my field but also outside, as an individual fully willing to volunteer in packing the goods. That is what I contributed. No one can stop me from doing what is right in a good and possible way, as long as I’m not stepping into someone’s shoes. This kind of act will not just help us individuals but also our country.

2. In a society where corruption or dishonesty exists, how do I respond or act differently?

In a corrupt society, especially here in Lapu-Lapu. I choose to act with honesty and integrity. I believe corruption is not just about stolen money it is stolen futures, the poor left without food or medicine, and communities left unprotected when promised projects vanish into nothing. That is why I reject corruption in all its forms and stand firm in doing what is right. History shows us that good politics is possible, leaders who chose service over self-interest proved that honesty in leadership can transform lives and uplift nations. In my own way, I carry the same responsibility every day, to live with integrity, lead with values that inspire real change, and never allow greed like ghost projects such as flood control that only sink our nation.

3. What personal values guide me to make good choices even when others around me do not?

The values that molded me for who I am since the very first time I found that I have potential and stepped up from my comfort zone are the LIONS: Leadership, Integrity, Optimism, Nurturance, and Sustainability.

4. How can I, as an individual, make a difference in society despite its problems?

By embodying change in ourselves. The fight begins in the choices we make every day, choosing honesty, fairness, and truth.

5. Reflecting on today, what kind of citizen do I want to become for my country?

I want to become a citizen who leads with integrity and puts people above self-interest. I aspire to live in truth, reject corruption in all its forms, and act with honesty, fairness, and courage. By standing for what is right and breaking the chains of corruption, I can help build a nation where leadership is rooted in service and integrity.
