PDTS- Post Donald Trump Syndrome

Chatter about the 2020 US Presidential Election is starting so early that it makes my stomach hurt. Poll rankings are already out for Democratic candidates. (Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Beto O’Rourke, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker.) The general election is over a year-and-a-half away and Democrats are putting pressure on their worn out party lines much too soon for comfort. They are sure to split in one fashion or another, giving an edge to Trump.

Republicans have already decided that unity trumps values, as they’ve proven with reactions of either silence or support to virtually every questionable position Trump has uttered, even as those positions radically change over time.

Voters all around the world can sense something changing in the air, and world leaders are working hard to suppress it. The outcomes of revolutions in Algeria, Libya, Sudan and Venezuela are all but uncertain. In Egypt, President Sisi recently ratified the nation’s constitution to allow him to serve until 2030. In Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu nearly lost a 5th term in office, but will ultimately go on removing Palestinians from the West Bank. Kim Jong-Un is bragging about tactical missile test launches only a few months after eventless talks between Trump and Kim in Hanoi.

This chaos makes everybody tense and jumpy, and when you mix that with an election season, logic and reason fly out the window. If Democrats want to win, they will heed this warning. The simple fact that Democrats still need to choose who to support as their champion against trump is their Achilles’ Heel. And it seems like they’ve already decided to wear sandals.
