Learning Target (s) and objectives

(Today I will, So that I can, I’ll know I’ve got it when..)

Today I will complete a math work booklet, cut and paste given amounts of an object on a piece of paper. This will show that I can add and subtract numbers under 10 and help me by physically cutting and pasting the certain pictures to match the problems. I’ll know I’ve got it when I can complete my math workbook all alone and correctly glue the pictures in the right spots.

Anticipatory Set/Introduction of lesson

Students will be given a sheet of paper with equations on it in a grid, then they will cut out the pictures at the bottom to match the problems on the worksheet. I will pass out the worksheet and I will say they need to cut out the bottom pictures and glue them to the corresponding equations on a sheet of paper. They can sit anywhere they want in the room as long as it stays quiet. After they completed gluing the pictures on, I will tell them to color them in. When the coloring is finished they will all go back to their normal seats and complete a math workbook that I will hand out. After, We will gather on the carpet and the students will watch a counting video.

Activities (what students do)

To begin, the students will get on the carpet and listen to me explain the worksheet. They are allowed to sit anywhere. They will then go to their preferred spot, cut out the pictures from the bottom of the worksheet, and glue them to the matching problem on the sheet. After the gluing is done, they will color the pictures on their sheet. Once completed, the students will go back to their normal seats and will be given a math booklet. When the math book is done all of the students will come back to the carpet and they will watch a counting video.

Included activities for multiple learning types (other ways students can learn this lesson)

If any students have an impairment they will be given counting blocks to help them feel the numbers, I will also count on my fingers and as they count I will point to, or put down, each finger.

Conclusion (recap main ideas)

For the concluding activity, the students will be watching a video on the carpet about numbers, counting, adding, and subtracting.

Evaluation (How will you determine that students got it?)

I will determine that students got it by making sure they all completed their worksheets and booklets.

Since I have very young kids they get excited about the smallest things. Cool prizes and games will (hopefully) encourage them to have better behavior. For my project I decided to create a game board and colored pawns to match the color of the table the children sit at. All pieces of the game will start from the beginning and once a table does something good collectively, they will move a space forward. The same rules apply when the table misbehaves and has to be reminded constantly of their behavior, they will be moved a space down. The first time to get to the end of the board gets a prize.

Learning target/objective:

Today I will work with a group of classmates, listen to the letters said by the teacher and be able to recognize these letters on a scavenger hunt around the classroom. I will be able to recite all of the letters in the alphabet by the end of today’s lesson. I will apply what I've learned by rotating through partners and practicing the ABC’s song. I’ll know I’ve got it when I can recite the alphabet with my classmates but without the teacher or video help.

Anticipatory Set:

Students will start off by watching a video of the ABC’s song to get their brains alert to the sounds, then we will sing it as a class 3 times. The first time; me with the students and the video and the second time; me and the students with no video.

https://youtu.be/4_hgFcLM9Rg

Materials Needed:

For this lesson the only materials needed will be:

The ABC’s song video

Small posters with letters on them for the scavenger hunt

Direct Instruction:

Before I start the lesson, I will “hide” letters on posters around the room. Then I will get the students attention by showing the ABC’s song, then after the first run-through I will explain to the students that they will be singing along to the song with me, so I will play it again. Next, I will have the students sing the song, with my help but no music. After we run the the song a few times I will put students into groups based on the first letter of their first name, (they will have to figure this one out on their own). Following the groups being made, I will call out a letter of the alphabet. When a student’s whole group is stationed at that letter I will give a point to that team and the first team to reach 10 points will get a prize. After the game, I will have students sit in two lines facing each other on the carpet. They will recite the ABCs with their partner once then I will have them rotate, I will have them do this 5 times through.

Student/Independent Practice:

First the students will be watching a video on the ABCs song. After watching the video once, the students will sing the song with my help and the songs. The second time through, they will sing the song without the music but with my help. After they sing, the students are going to listen for the first letter of their name to be called, and go to the coordinating spot in the room for their letter. Then, once in groups, the students will be told a letter and they will go around the classroom to find the hidden letter, once the entire team is at the letter and sitting, they will receive a point. The first team to 10 points will win. After the game is done, the students will sit in two lines facing each other. With the partner across from them, they will say the alphabet once, they will rotate and do this 5 times.

Differentiation:

To accommodate different learners, the students will have other students to bounce ideas off and get help.

Closure/Wrap up/Assessment:

Students will have to recite the alphabet as a class without mine or the music videos help.
