This Fifth grade lesson will help students identify and describe attributes of two dimensional shapes along with classifying shapes in a hierarchy.

Learning Objectives:

Identifty and describe the attributes of two dimensional shapes using sides, angles, and symmetry.
Classify shapes in a hierarchy; ex. All squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares.
Use a graphic organizer to categorize shapes.

Standards:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.G.B.3 - Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.G.B.4 - Classify two dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
