The five levels of Maslow's hierarchy can be divided into basic needs that are physiological, safety, love/belonging,egotistic, and self-actualizing. In order to reach the next level of needs, the needs in the previous level must be fulfilled. For example, you need food and water for your physiological needs to be fulfilled before you can move onto your safety needs.

This advertisement for make-up uses the appeal of logos to meet the needs of self-actualization. People, when they "feel their best", what themselves to have and look the best. So, this becomes a simple need of commonsense to buy make-up to look the best.

Using pathos, the creators of the advertisement reaches out to the hearts of the viewers. They use their love for animals/pets to persuade people to want to buy these homeless animals. This appeal to emotion would relate to the belongingness need of the Maslow's Hierachy of Needs Pyramid where as the lost animals would provide love or friendship to the perosn who buys them. So in this way, you can buy happiness!

Women who desire companionship would look at this and think that men do not like skinny women. This advertisement is to reach out to the woman who want to feel like they belong. This is the third level on Maslow's Hierachy of Needs, belongingness. People like to feel loved by others and accepted by others. By not being skinny and gaining a few pounds, women will feel accepted by men because they will be asked out on more dates according to the advertisement.
