In German, we started reading with our reading tandem partner. We also learned a poem about friendship. We continued to practice our cursive handwriting. We have been working a lot on spelling and now we know that we capitalize nouns and sentence beginnings in German. The most exciting thing was our project week, where we read the book "Briefe von Felix", where we could experience how to write letters. After it, we wrote our own letters to our penpals in Germany. We can´t wait for them to reply.

In math, we studied addition and subtraction up to 100. We also looked at the tens transition. We now know how to find our way around arithmetic lines and have dealt with various mathematical solids. Finally, we looked at how to convert addition tasks into multiplication tasks.

In Sachkunde our topic was "children of the world". We made a small paper suitcase to take a trip around the world. How do other children live in other countries or even on other continents? What do they eat? What clothes do they wear? What does a typical school day look like for them? We explored all of these questions.

We have expanded our sports game repertoire in the area of racing and relay games. For example, we learned the game "SPIELKARTENLAUF". The playing card race is a relay race where the children are divided into four teams (diamonds, hearts, spades, and clubs team) and compete against each other. One by one, they run to the opposite little hat, behind which 32 cards lie turned over, uncover one, and are allowed to take it if it shows the group's own symbol. The team that first collects 10 cards of the symbol is the winner. During the games, we kept reminding ourselves to treat each other with respect.

Here we were able to apply our newly gained knowledge about watercolors right away. We also practiced using scissors and glued great objects onto our autumn pictures.

On Tuesday, they branched outside of the classroom and read to the Kindergarten class. They had so much fun showing off their reading skills!

In this writing unit, grade 2 wrote and published a book about a topic they knew a lot about. They researched certain aspects of their topic, wrote introductions and conclusions, and glossaries if needed. The kids worked extremely hard on editing their rough drafts. They also gave feedback to partners to help them add any missing details about their topic.

In Dance, we are using animals to inspire some new movements and coordinations, like frog jumps (leg and foot coordination and strength), tiger crawls (hand and foot articulations) and penguin walks (turned out legs). We're also practicing different pathways, including straight, curved, zig-zag and squiggly. In January, we'll use our knowledge of pathways to make dances that travel. We will also draw maps of our dances. We can't wait!

The children started learning about how music is organized and how to "feel" when music is in a certain time signature. We've also started learning about German-speaking composers like Mozart, their life, and their music! We will soon be exploring pieces by Beethoven and learning about different music traditions from around the world.
