Our Solar System

Over 4 billion years ago, our solar system was created.

At the center, is the Sun, our Solar System's star, and all of the other planets orbit the sun!

The planets in our Solar System are:

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus! (Pluto isn't technically a part of our solar system anymore).

Between Mars and Jupiter is an asteroid belt where rocks, asteroids, and other materials orbit the sun along with the other planets.

The Sun

The Sun is our Solar System's star! It's a giant, blazing, hot ball of gas. The Sun's gravitational pull keeps all of the planets in the Solar System orbiting around it.

The Sun provides our planet, Earth, with light and heat, as well as the other planets! We cannot live on Earth without the Sun!

Mercury

Mars

Mars is the fourth planet in our Solar System! It is also known as "The Red Planet" due to its red coloring.

Mars is another solid, rocky planet, and scientists believe that water was once on Mars, or is still contained somewhere on Mars, likely in the form of ice.

Scientists have also began research on if humans could one day live on Mars.

Asteroid Belt
