  • Comprehensive and varied practice adds to language acquisition 
  • The amount of support is just as important as the text levels 
  • Early childhood ELLs face extra troubles because they may not have developed language skills in their own language 
  • Reading preparation includes discussion of relevant background information, explanations of context in which the text was produced, previews and overviews of the text itself, picture walks, and predictions 
  • It is important to prepare the students to read before actually reading
