Throughout my childhood, i grew up wth a brother who has a mental handicap called “Smith Magenis.” My family brought me and my three siblings up all together like we were all the same and we learned to love each other’s differences, especially since i was born with a cleft lip and palate as well. From this loving upbringing i always knew i wanted to help others and make sure they received the love and care they need as well.

I have grown up working at camps as a counsellor multiple times, i always loved being someone children could look up to, or rely on for help. I now work at an Early Years Centre in my home town called “Kemptville Area Family Resource Centre,” and i have worked here for almost two years now.

From starting this job, i was quickly able to identify that this was a passion of mine, and that i needed to make it a future career for me. I have worked hard in my career, achieving certificates and training, and now going through and completing schooling to ensure i am giving children the best care.

Reflection:

Throughout this course, i have been able to deeper my understanding of child development by connecting theory and real-life observations. My artifacts that i chose to present are focused on attachment, efficacy and temperament along with reflections that connect to child development as well. Each of these artifacts highlight different aspects of child development and show up everyday within their lives.

More specifically, these artifacts are able to show valuable information about this topic and the skill and knowledge i have developed along the way as well. I have been able to learn how every child responds differently based on their temperament, and how we can support them individually as well. This has altered my approach to teaching, giving me patience in how i address children. Within my regular reflections, i was able to connect what i was learning with what i saw in my work and apply different skills there as well. Each reflection was a new skillset to learn. Child development is extremely crucial to support within children, and through learning this, i have become a better educator as well.

Reflection:

These four artifacts have been chosen to represent my knowledge and learnt information about program and curriculum development. Being able to establish and be able to narrow down what i stand in and what i want to practise in my own curriculum and how i can support pedagogy.

My educational philosophy dives deep into what theories i feel are great and not great, and it helps explain by thoughts and understandings and what i want to practise. Through examining different theorists i was able to identify what theories best outline my thoughts. Curriculum and pedagogy is the foundation of where we start to help children and help them grow as well. It is my mission to ensure i do it correctly and support them in every way i can.

Reflection:

Creating connections as an educator is one of the most important things to create. Having important relationships sets a solid foundations, and helps create a classroom environment that is comfortable and welcoming for children. As an educator, i strive to ensure all the children in my classroom are included and feel happy and comfortable, that’s my number one goal.

Throughout the artifacts here, you can recognize how i plan to do this within my classroom. I plan on educating myself on cultures, races, ethnicity and more so i know how to support children with these differences, to make them feel that these differences do not set them apart from the rest of the class. I also plan on focusing and setting aside any personal biases that i may possess when coming into the classroom to ensure i am creating a fair and welcome environment for everyone. It’s important that i continue to assess and reflect on myself to see if there’s any way i can change or educate myself for the best of the children and classroom.

Reflection:

Ensuring i am knowledgeable about the health and regulations practises that are needed within a childcare setting is important to ensure i can keep children in my classroom safe.

The following artifacts show how i have critically put in the time in effort to get certificates that are needed to take care of children and keep them safe appropriately. Being able to provide children with a safe and healthy learning environment, helps ensure children have the space to grow and develop appropriately. My field trip assignment, outlines how i can ensure the safety of children inside and outside the classroom in many different ways, and apply first aid and health and safety skills outlined in my certificates as well. Health and safety is mandatory in the classroom to create a successful classroom.

Reflection:

As an educator, it is my job to advocate for children and families and the profession of early childhood education. Children are among the most vulnerable members of our communities. Children rely on us to ensure we protect their rights, support their well-being and have a supportive environment to help their grow developmentally.

These artifacts show how i have educated myself about groups who need to be advocated for a little more than others among children, and how i will support them in the classroom. When we advocate for children, we are able to give them a voice. As an educator, i want to be educated and know how i can best support all different children in the classroom so there is nothing holding them back from learning.

Reflection:

As an educator always enhancing my education to be better for the children i take care of is one of the most important things. This ensures i am always changing with evolution and the changing times to create an environment that children are comfortable and welcomed in. Young children are constantly changing and developing as is new research and innovation, so it is up to me as an educator to make sure i am educationally up to date on everything.

These certificates show how i am consistently gaining new knowledge and skills that can help support me as an early childhood educator. This education and new skills help me reflect on my work and build and grow to be a stronger educator. I am overall committed to to making meaningful impacts and creating new knowledge to be the most formative in the most important years of a child’s life.
