1807–1808 – 1 Invasion of Portugal:
Napoleon sent General Junot to invade Portugal for refusing to join his blockade against Britain. The Portuguese royal family fled to Brazil, and French troops occupied Lisbon. In 1808, British forces helped drive the French out after victories at Roliça and Vimeiro

This Invasion took place in march, 1809 and it was commanded by Marshal Soult. The frech troops entered through Chaves to go to Porto after. Near Porto the Portuguese fought Hard so Soult and his troups had to go to Galicia, in Spain.

The Church of Saint Francis in Porto was were the French stayed during the occupation and they needed to rip off some of the golden wood carving to make bonfires to warm up.

When the people in Porto realized were the french were they crossed the bridge trying to get to Vila Nova de Gaia, but the bridge collaped and over four thousand people died.

The third french invasion was led by General massena in 1810, this time the portuguese and british were perpared , so they defeated the french in the battle of buçaco.

However the french did not give up and a new battle was fought, near torres vedras where buildings have been built to defend Lisbon .

During the battle the french were defaeted and began to leave the portuguse territory for once and for all.
