Tiny generator - I used two DVDs, a candle lid, two bottle caps, a nut and a bolt, a tiny DC motor, a red LED, a rubber band and some wire.  The base for the contraption was made all from cardboard and secured with popsicle sticks. 

By spinning the CD wheel, the rubber band spins the motor and it generates some electricity to light the light bulb. The bulb lights up when it's spun up as you can see. It doesn't work super well but does light. I had a lot of fun with this, definitely was fun. I would try to find an easier way to make it light up more reliably.
