In my photo, I am posing in Amsterdam which is one of the European cities I was lucky enough to visit this summer! I love coffee, cats, hikes, yoga, and dancing. I am not a movie person, but I am always watching a TV show. My parents are from Poland, and they moved to the Chicagoland area, which is where I grew up. Polish is my first language and I was the first generation in my family to go to college!

I received my undergrad degree in Spanish and History at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities as well as my Masters of Education in Multilingual ed.


I love playing and listening to music, I was in the UMN marching band as well as the athletic pep band all four years of my undergrad playing the clarinet. I love to bake and go for walks. I love dogs and cats but currently have two orange cats named Charlie and Shorty. Spain has a special place in my heart, especially the city of Toledo.

I am Maureen Araya, the AVID District Director and will be supporting all sites across the district. I have been in public education for the last 13 years. I got my undergraduate degree and the University of Notre Dame (Psychology and Spanish) and a Masters of Teaching Multilingual Learners (ESL) from the University of Saint Mary's of Minnesota.


I have added a picture of my family, as it encompasses a lot of what is important to me. This photo was taken in the Andes mountains of Chile, looking down on where my in-laws live and where I met my husband. After graduating from college, I moved to South America for a few years, met my husband and we are now raising our bi-racial, bi-cultural, bi-lingual, dual national kiddos in Roseville. We have an incoming 9th grader (RAHS) and an incoming 5th grader (Little Canada). Along with travel, photography is one of my passions. I love capturing beauty, memories and important moments. And while looking at this photo I realized my husband and I are both wearing our undergraduate college gear, a fun connection to my work with AVID.
