*This model was developed by Dorothy Frayer and her associates at the University of Wisconsin in 1969.
*It uses a graphic organizer divided into four sections for recording information related to the concept written in the center bubble. It was developed to analyis and asses attainment of concepts. The four sections of the organizer include operational definition, characteristics or properties, examples and non-examples (From their own prior knowledge of the concepts).

Students will be using tiles to find the area of various rectangles and squares. The tiles will be equal to 1 square unit, and the various shapes they will be tiling are different sized pieces of paper. The students will also tile one object of theirs, a phone or a calculator would work perfectly. When the students tile, they are using addition to find the area. Using the same tiles, the students will focus on the finding the area by multiplying. To do this they will count the number of tiles alongside the length and the width and will multiply their numbers found to find the area. After this, the students will compare the two ways they discovered the same area. After the lesson the teacher will model the Frayer worksheet, by completing it with multiplication. This will be used to demonstrate how to set up a Frayer Model and what is expected. After the example is done, give students the Frayer Model with the middle filled out (area) and have them fill out the 4 quadrants on their own, trying to use language and examples that differ from the teacher’s example. After they fill it out on their own they may collaborate with another student.
