In my opinion, the tundra biome is one of the most at-risk biomes in the world due to the rise of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Our society is heavily fueled by fossil fuel consumption. Anytime we burn these fossil fuels, which occurs at a very high rate today, we release gases and chemicals into the air which heat up the atmosphere. In addition to these things, sea levels begin to rise, ice caps begin to melt, and the overall temperature of earth begins in increase. In relation to the tundra biome, the very cold climate of tundra biomes are going to experience a large amount of change if the earth continues to increase its average temperature. Because of this, the plant and animal life which is uniquely adapted to survive in very cold climates will begin to go extinct as they will begin to no longer be suited for their environment. In combination with this, the environment itself will essentially begin to "melt" if the rates at which earth's atmosphere continues to heat up increases.

This picture is symbolic of the connection society and the environment have with plants. The midrib of the plant leaf is representative of plants. The veins of the plant leaf on one side are representative of society and the veins on the other side are representative of the environment. This demonstrates the interconnected relationship between plants, society, and the environment. In terms of society, plants provide us with many services. Starting from one of the most basic yet critical services of producing oxygen for us all the way to being utilized for food and medicinal sources. In terms of the environment, plants work hard to clean up the atmosphere. They can absorb chemicals and substances which can be dangerous in large quantities and release "safe" ones back into the environment. They also serve as the foundation for many of the various habitats for our wildlife to live in. Much like they do for us, they also function as food sources for not only other animals, but also themselves.

Arguably, the social stratification that arose out of the Neolithic Revolution had both positive and negative impacts on society as a whole. For example, the various social positions in terms of work such as: doctors, judges, rulers, politicians, etc. benefitted society. It did so, because it allowed people to fill a diverse range of roles that were formerly unable to be met as everyone was preoccupied with hunting and gathering. This also produced negative consequences on society. For example, the social division among people of various classes only began to grow wider. Today, we are still able to see this effect in our own societies as there is a great balance of inequality based on social position in society.

The source I chose to use for the Unit 6 Padlet assignment is the following picture of a scientist attempting to inject a solution into a carrot. One key characteristic of the Third Agricultural Revolution is the increased use of chemical technology in agricultural practices. Chemical technological advancements such as herbicides, GMOs, etc. allowed for the development of plant life that had resistance to troublesome diseases and pests, as well as increased our ability to mass produce food. In my perspective, the picture represents these aspects of the Third Agricultural Revolution. In particular, it demonstrates characteristics that also defined the onset of the Green Revolution which relied heavily on bringing under-developed countries up to speed by way of agricultural technologies such as GMOs to mass produce food and boost the economic conditions of certain countries.

The burning of fossil fuels, of which some are derived from the remains of ancient plants and/or animals, to harness their energy releases a chemical into the atmosphere called carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a chemical that has the ability to trap heat within it. While it is not the only chemical released during the consumption of fossil fuels, it has and has had an influential effect on the world around us. At the current rate of fossil fuel consumption, the amount of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere is unprecedented. The presence of too much carbon dioxide in our atmosphere can have detrimental effects on nature. We do know that the rise of greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide being one of them, has contributed to rising sea levels, increasing average temperatures, the melting of ice caps, and the breakdown of habitats amongst other issues. Now, we are able to understand the reality of the dangers gases like carbon dioxide present to the earth.

I think that this image is symbolic of earth's potential disposition if changes are not made for the better. Earth's current condition is almost like a ticking time bomb. Many of our agricultural, economic, social, and political practices are harmful to the planet. While it may not be possible to recover from damage that has already been done, it is possible for us to stop further damage from occurring. I feel that this picture demonstrates this as the human hand is the one holding the match. Right now, we still have the opportunity to make improvements to preserve and protect the plants, animals, ecosystems, etc. on this planet. We are the ones that have to take action though.
