celebration of Bidhannagar Ghosh Thakur Bhawan has got a rich and precious history behind it's origin.In the year 1939,Sri Sarajendu Ghosh Thakur Mahsaya,one of the ancestors of the Ghosh family,first
initiated this puja at a place called Khanudih(a place in Jharkhand) where he was transferred as a railway service officer during the British times.The Bengali residents of Khanudih Baghmara were eager to witness the celebration for the 'first' time at the very spot itself as many of them had shifted with their respective families to the very place.Just for the sake of their interest,the Durga Puja had started off with great marvel and grandeur.It is still continuing at the very place and is familiar to the locality as the "Puja of Khanudih Durga Mandir".Sri Sarajendu Ghosh Thakur Mahasya was one of the chief contributors of the celebration.However,unfortunately, following his death the family lost its connection with this "community puja" which
had already attained universal participation of the common public with the construction of the spacious Durga Dalan. From that time onwards the household engaged itself only in the ancestral jagatdhatri puja celebration which was even older than Durga Puja
and was held every year at the ancestral house of Chandernagore(Surpara).

Years later,the long begotten worship was revived with the passage of a divine order received from the Holy Mother herself.Durga Puja was once again established as a festivity inside the interiors of Ghosh
Bhawan,Bidhannagar(the foundation that was laid in the city of Durgapur approximately 50 years back from
the present.)

Restarted in the year 2016,the festival started taking it's shape as years passed by and thus the event acquired it's place in the festivity list of the family.With the advent of the worship, a number of expiations were
made with regard to the rituals of the festival(that was formerly followed in the early years) and a number of them were incorporated as an innovation. 

The Ghosh Family is recognised for it's series of festivals including:snanayatra,rathyatra,janmashtami,kathamo puja,ganesh puja,durga puja,lakshmi puja,kali puja,jagatdhatri puja and saraswati puja.It is
recognised as the "Household of Festivities" in the real sense of the word.
The very usage of the word "Bonedi" in the context of the celebration has been particularly refrained because the Ghosh Bhawan culture is considered to be an aggregate of a number of sister cultures.The
family acquired the royal assent ever since the time of Madhabchandra Ghosh,who was the Dewan Bahadur of Bardhamman Estate(under Burdwan Raj).Following
which,the family entered into the babu culture and ultimately it was fortunate enough to get honoured by the British. The elder brother of Sri Sarajendu Ghosh,Sri Bhavendra Vijay Ghosh was honoured with
the RaiBahadur title.

Presently,the Ghosh Family is divided into three parts where a part of the family is settled in Garhbeta,a part of it in Chandernagore and the remaining ones in

 পূজার প্রাক্কালে এবে মঙ্গল গাহিলা ।।

Mother manifested in her ten armed form, as luminous as a million Suns and as cooling as a million moons ! Standing on her lion she is slaying the demon, sending out war cries which have filled the three worlds ! On her right sits Gajanan, the elephant headed one along with goddess of wealth. On her right, the holder of Veena and Kartikeya Sadanan. Bholanath Shiva smiles down from top. All gods and demons come to sing her glories and immerse in the nectar of her bhakti. The sweetness of that same nectar has now affected myself. Bhakta Gosai sings the all purifying glories of mother on the eve of Mahapuja.

The weapons-The trident, the discus, the dagger, the sharp arrow and the spear(shakti) are arranged in sequence in the respective right hands of the goddess....                                      

 "খেটকং পূর্ণচাপঞ্চ পাশমঙ্কুশমেব চ । ঘন্টাং বা পরশুং বাপি বামতঃ সন্নিবেশয়েৎ"

 In the respective left hands, there in stays the shield(khetak),the purnachap(tightened bow ready to be used), the  serpent in the form of a noose, the ankusha(a weapon which looks like an elephant trunk) and either the ghanta(bell) or the parashu(axe).
