He's not a true military man and appears to be somewhere in the hierarchy of nobility as he has land that he will sell in order to "fill his purse" with money. (Which Iago eventually "bobs" for himself.) Roderigo is also very gullible and allows Iago to lead him on constantly. This character is mostly a static character, but has a tendency to be almost dynamic because he is slowly becoming more dissatisfied with Iago. In Act 5, Scene 1, when Roderigo ambushes Cassio, it all goes wrong; Roderigo fails to kill Cassio but is wounded BY Cassio. Her father is noble and yet she leaves him for someone else she falls in love with and it seems Othello and her are head over heels for each other love-wise and lust-wise. She stays true to her word but she is also extremely obedient to Othello and acts like a clueless airhead who is taken over by her feelings of love for Othello. Even when she gets slapped, she still proceeds to listen to everything Othello tells her to do whether it's coming back to him or leaving the room to give him space. He's established a high status from being a soldier and has earned respect yet he still gets treated like an outsider for his race. He is madly in love with Desdemona and he secretly marries her behind her father's back. He is seen as an optimistic character and will do almost anything to make Desdemona happy and is very content with his life. Othello is also too trusting as he believes Iago too easily and gets manipulated into thinking his wife is cheating on him. He also seems to suck at communication as he doesn't even find real proof from her to figure out if she's telling the truth or if Iago is the one telling the truth. He ends up letting his feelings get to him and Iago’s manipulation worked on him. Being the antagonist, he continues to manipulate all the characters for his plan to get what he wants which is the job title lieutenant. He makes Othello lose trust in Cassio to fire him from the job, then make shim think his wife is cheating on him, and makes Roderigo believe he has a chance of taking Desdemona from him if he just listens to what he tells him to do. We see Iago is easy to change personalities depending on who he is with and and he doesn’t seem to show his wife any type of real love. She is the one who gives him the handkerchief and he pushes her off him, not giving her reward for her efforts for him. This ends up causing the whole shenanigans with the cheating scandal due to Desdemona’s handkerchief being found with Cassio. He says for sinning he must take her life in which she is terrified of his sword and tries to escape but he had locked the door. He smothers and strangles her in bed until he takes her last breath. Amelia then comes in and sees Desdemona laying lifeless and with her last words, she blames her death on herself and not Othello. Once Othello does find out Desdemona was telling the truth, Othello slices Iago on the leg in fury once he figured out that Iago has been lying to him all along. Iago scoffs saying Othello did not accomplish killing him if that's what he was after, but Othello is glad he did not kill Iago because he wants him to live with the guilt.
