This part of the poem is part of CRT because its saying that the bird is restricted in many ways and yet he still tries his best and sings. This reminds me of how many cultures and people of colour have to go through life feeling restricted and yet they still try and try and sometimes get results. It is very difficult for them because not everything comes easy for them; much like the bird. This could be compared to maybe another bird whos free and who isn't tied down and can fly. The poem hints at privilege and slavery.
-M

This is reminiscent of slavery. When slaves were locked up on boats, all they could do was sing or speak. It was the last piece of freedom they had at the time. This is a reflection of slavery and express to us, the audience, the circumstance black people were in during slavery. "Winds are clipped and feet are tied' means that they weren't free, hence oppressed. "He opens his throat to sing" mirrors how black people were trying to express their problems during slavery.

One bird is free, by luck, the other is caged, by luck. Although they are the same, the only thing that separates them is circumstances they have no power over.

This part of the poem is hinting at slavery very strongly because the bird is clearly uncomfortable and trapped in this cage. The poem says "His bars of rage" and this specific line reminds me of bars on a prison. The story the poem i telling with this line is very important and the way it is worded clearly shows how hurtful it is. Being in a prison is feeling trapped and feeling you have no rights and it is inhumane. That is what the bird is feeling; he is feeling enraged and kind of breaking down because of how little control he has over this situation and that relates to the CRT.
- M
