Immediately she gets a positive response from smoking, but it blocks the long term effects that come after her initial use of a cigarette.

If she decides to try and quit smoking, there will be some long-term impacts. Her lungs and other vital organs that are necessary to live, will thank her for quitting her addiction. Her family will be much happier, without having to deal with her constant breaks in family occasions to smoke. If she doesn't decide to try and quit, there are many bad long-term impacts. She will be at a greater risk of blood and lung cancer. Second-hand smoke can negatively impact not only herself, but her family. The list of bad long-term effects of the chemicals and nicotine in cigarettes overflow any of the good.

"Historically, humans needed to make decisions based on immediate needs, like where their next meals would come from. Evolution has led us to naturally make short term decisions a priority" (Pg.8).

My mom decided to go against her instincts based off of immediate feedback and thoroughly think about the long-term impacts. She decided it was best to try with everything that she can, to quit smoking. Despite her addiction, and how hard it is to quit, she knew it was better in the long run.

If she decides to try and quit smoking, there will be some short-term impacts. That will include mood swings, and irritability. That will only last so long until she's used to not smoking. If she decides to keep smoking, she will only seem happy for so long. Her family will know the long-term effects but she will only be flooded with the immediate results. Only after a short amount of time smoking, things such as bad breath, smelly clothes, and stained teeth come into effect.

"Science shows that humans are lousy at estimating risk. And we make lots of decisions based on our estimates of risk" (Pg.7). Even though there's correct scientific data to support the long-term impacts, smokers who are addicted don't care about the information brought to them. They make their own estimated risks, which cause them to determine the wrong decisions.
