This bugle is an artifact that would've been found in the Battle of Shiloh. During the Civil War, bugles were used by messengers, surgical assistants and ambulance crews. Different bugle calls were used in the war as military signals to announce certain scheduled and unscheduled events. They were also used for clear communication on a noisy and confusing battlefield.

This image is a depiction of Union troop holding their line against Confederate soldiers during the Battle Of Shiloh. This area later became known as the "Hornet's Nest" because of the intense fighting and high amount of casualties that took place there, when the Confederates decided to charge at the Union line 8 to 14 times instead of bypassing it.

This is a church from the Battle of Shiloh and it can still be seen today by tourists. It is famous since it was said that after the battle you could walk from the field to the church and never touch the ground due to the immense amount of casualties. A quote from Ulysses S. Grant - "It would have been possible to walk across the clearing in any direction stepping on dead bodies without a foot touching the ground."

This document is an excerpt from a newspaper called " The Brooklyn Daily Eagle", published in Brooklyn New York on February 1, 1885. This excerpt is called "Who Blundered at Shiloh" and it presents a detailed account of the battle given by Ulysses S. Grant. He gave this explanation because he was subjected to misrepresentation and unjust criticism as a result of the Battle of Shiloh. Grant also gave this account in order to explain why he failed to make a report at the conclusion of the engagement to his official superior, General Halleck.
