  • My mom was one of those moms that we could say "it doesn't taste like mom's" about. No one's tamales have ever been as good as hers. She was also the kind of cook who never measured so asking her for a recipe was not easy. I have memories of calling her to ask her how to make something and she would try to talk me through making something over the phone. 
  • My mom was the kind of person that recorded shows or bands when they performed on TV because she knew I liked them. It didn't matter who it was or if she knew anything about them, she paid attention just because she knew it was something I was interested in. She recently texted me to see if I knew the Foo Fighters were coming to El Paso. Once she knew what you liked, she never forgot. 
  • She was the kind of person that gave from her heart, even if it was the last thing she had. Growing up, we often saw her stop and give what little money she had to someone in need. 
  • She was the kind of person who was resourceful and never gave up. While looking through some of her papers I came across an old resume and marveled at how many different jobs she'd had. She was a hard worker and took pride in any job she had. She was never afraid of learning a new skill. 
  • She was a storyteller. She always had a story about something and she always used her hands to tell it too. I can still picture her animated motions anytime she told one of her stories. 
  • She was funny, silly, and playful. She loved to laugh. She laughed with her whole face. Even when she was sick and not doing well, she found humor in things and wasn't afraid to laugh at the situation. 
  • Lastly, my mom was a teacher. Of the many things she has taught us and passed down to us, I will most cherish that she taught my sister and I how to crochet. Over the years it has been something that bonded us. Of course, I had to ask many times for help, but she always walked me through it patiently. My kids cherish the many crochet items she made them, and I know they will always be special because she made everything with love. 
It is hard to think that there will be no more time to ask her opinion about something or call and ask her how her day is going. I am grateful for the 66 years God gave her and more importantly, grateful for the little things she passed on to us that we will always have to reflect on and go back to.

My favorite memory of her was when she rode shotgun on the drive back from Alburqueque while I drove. We talked pretty much the whole time.  She shared many stories of her life.  Something I noticed is that even when she spoke of some of the tough times in her life, she spoke from a heart of strength. She had the willingness to keep her head up and keep moving forward. Rosie was definitely an extremely hardworking, sacrificial woman with a great sense of humor. I will always remember her laugh that had a contagious sound and always lit up her whole face. She is someone who would sacrifice for so many. I always enjoyed listening to her speak about so many things because she was someone  who knew a lot about a lot of things; and this was because she learned things as she lived life! Even when she would cook, she would talk about how with some many things she had to learn as she tried things out, self-taught. We will always have so many yummy things that we will make 'like Rosie did'. I am grateful for all the thought she put into making beautiful baby blankets for my children that we will always cherish. Our lives have been truly blessed and are so much fuller because we had Rosie as a member of our family.

She was one of the easiest people to love and to be loved by. Rosie had many challenges in her life but she never complained but faced them head on with grace, persistence and perseverance. Rosie was always available, willing and generous with her time. She inspired me with her warm, positive, caring and confident demeanor. We have lost an amazing and strong friend. Who was an example of being herself with faith and gratitude that were unwavering. 

I will always remember her.

Rosie always had so much to give. She would give her time, car,  home, food, love,  friendship, talents, love, and joy. She was a beautiful and devoted mother always willing to be there for her children and grandchildren. She always welcomed me in her home and remembered my special diet. The last time I got to see her was at my baby shower before Covid, she made my daughter a beautiful crochet blanket and bee. She was always happy and thoughtful even when she was very ill. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know her and will miss her very much.
