it will allow slaves to have a say in politics (not immediately) and it will cause the slaves to have views that are similar to the north's views. after the war the country was very divided so the politicians had to come in with a bunch of unrealistic goals to try to get people to vote for them. also, less people would support slavery. the country would be focused on unifying. regardless, there is still going to be tension between the races. the white people will still be the politicians and there will be no black politicians to represent the views and concerns of the races. the white politicians will basically cater to their own needs. they will also focus on freedom.

i used this picture because it shows how corrupt the government and politicians were. it showed how corrupt a popular politician was and how his main concern was money.

After the Civil War, I think the country would be divided by the roots of the South and the North. Politicians would try to focus on bringing the country together. The government would be more involved in the country because the Confederacy is an example of what happens when the States are given too much power. The country is polarized because of the war and they would want to ensure that the war was not for nothing. The government would focus on giving the freed slaves their rights by creating amendments to the Constitution. However, due to the racial tension that is going in the country it is safe to say that the slaves would not have the same opportunities as their white counterparts. It is highly likely that hate groups would arise during this time period because of the sigma there is against slaves, because as of yet, these slaves are not considered African-AMERICANS but rather slaves alone. They have not become one with the Southern population and are going to be persecuted into the future. The South is still going to have the discrimination against black people but the country as a whole is going to be against the mistreatment of blacks. The North would try to ensure that the South is giving black people their rights so that the millions of lives that were lost over the course of the war was not for no reason.

The country will be focused on what they could do now in terms of slavery, Is it going to be completely banished or if it's going to still exist in the areas that they are already in. But mostly on trying to bring the whole union together, because after the War, the North and South are going to be buddies just because the war is over . They some how need to find a way to get together and became one. If not the the country will weaken even more, other countries will see that and will start to take advantage of that. However the government will be focused on the slaves that should be ex slaves, if they would become free or stay with their owner. One thing that becomes hard to believe is the slave owners giving up what made them who they are. Which is going to be an obstacle that the Government will have to face in the future.

Even after the War I do believe the country is divided more than ever which is going to cause the union to officially be split.

The war will shape the politics of the late 1800's because the American Civil War was all about slavery, and whether or not a state could decide without the Federal Government over them. It was decided at the end of the war with the Union winning that the the United States National government was needed to run the country but many confederate sympathizers still believed in "States Rights". Also, now that slavery has been outlawed in the United States the discussion begins about black people's rights and whether they should be the same as the white man, and because of the time period the answer was a blatant no. As time went on rights have tried to level out but the effects of the discussion on rights still lingers today in the social unrest we are still experiencing, because people still have kept a similar way of thinking along the approach of the confederate "Lost Cause". All the social unrest stems from the reconstruction era following the civil war during the late 1800's, and still has not been solved.

Pictured above is a photo from the Civil Rights movement from 1963, Birmingham Alabama.

In the aftermath of the Civil War, it is likely that the Republican party wins favour and continuing to build the country as they see fit, although there would still be the lingering Democrats trying to run for office. Backlash might start among them, Southerners holding true that Confederate beliefs are superior to those of the United States, however, there would be less people who support slavery (considering many of them died in the war). That internal conflict within the country would cause some controversy among politicians, but eventually the people, and by extension the politicians would try to come together. Both sides were left in some form of disarray following the war, and so rebuilding would need to be done, and the viewpoints of the people. Racist tendencies are hard to shake off, however, and in the midst of rebuilding, give rise for politicians to further their own racist agendas. This could mean the introduction of laws that are harder on people of colour than the white man, and demonizing them within both culture, and giving subtle hints to it in campaigns. Those who share these beliefs would vote these individuals into office, particularly in the South, leading to a slow ride of Democrats across the country. To get voted into power, they would need to appease the racists, allowing for agendas to be woven into the policies written into office. The country would be more focused on the rebuilding and growth of the nation, as well as making peace with the former Confederates to notice the effects of these laws until it becomes an overpowering force. With black people gaining more rights, the country would ride it off as a non-issue, and that the problem of slavery was solved. This neglect of the issue is what also helps politicians get away with these laws. This is what helps make racism almost accepted by the law, and would spark the issue of sharecropping, which can be viewed as legal, almost-slavery. Politics is both representation of the people, but can also influence people. Politicians are voted in by racist Americans, but because of their public presence, shape the minds of others, leading to a cycle of racism in the time period. Even though people of colour were now free, those who once oppressed them still could get away with keeping them less than the white man through legislature, and wiggling their way into office. Apart from the politics of the time, it would lead on into other centuries, often becoming more subtle with time.

In post-war USA in the late 1800's, the central government will likely be focused on establishing their power over states in that the central government always wins over states. Also and more importantly, the central government will be very focused on enforcing the freedom of all former slaves that are now freed and establishing their rights and citizenship ultimately through the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments as made in the late 1800's. The south however would prove to be resilient to change of this sort and still enforce whatever possible law they could to undermine the newly freedmen of colour, which led to segregation that lasted until the Civil Rights movement nearly a century later. The south would also go on to rewrite history depicting the south as a heroic martyr that lost the war but fought for a good cause. This cause was that they were fighting for states rights while the north took that away from them. The south would fight to build statues of historical confederate leaders and schools honouring the fallen confederate leaders, most notably Robert E. Lee.

Because the Union wins the war, the republican party will most likely be in power. They will most likely try to enforce the freedom of the slaves. However, at this time, the former slaves still have little to no rights. They are no longer slaves but they are still treated very poorly due to their previous governmental status. The south may still support slavery but they are forced to give them up because the north gained control of the United States.

This will affect the politics in the late 1800s significantly. Although slavery has been eliminated, the racist whites will continue to hold the majority of political power in the late 1800s. The country will be focused on healing after the war, but the nation does not heal because the people are unwilling to unify. Segregation is still very prominent, and black people remain being the minority people and people with no voice or rights to get education or justice.

The Civil War will shape politics in late 1800's because the war focused about if slavery should be banish forever or if it should remain, therefore politics would argue about the freedom and rights of the citizens as a whole nation.
