Mean: Many times people in general can be misunderstood or misunderstand others because of cultural norms/differences. People may translate/perceive information or conversations in a different way. 
Matter: This matters especially for educators who teach students of different backgrounds because content/information can be misinterpreted from the teacher or the student. The teacher or student might even misread a social que such as feelings/display of feelings because of cultural norms and expectations.
