Blue Oyster Cult - 'The Reaper'
- Don't be afraid of the reaper / dying
- You can be with loved ones in the afterlife
- sounds comforting

'The Reaper' by Blue Oyster cult encourages us not to be afraid of death or The Reaper which is a personification of death. It also includes the possibility of your spirit living on with your loved ones in the afterlife. The songwriter said 'It's about imagining you can survive death in the terms of your spirit. Your spirit will prevail.'

Queen - 'The Show Must Go On'
- Asks us what we are living for?
- Despite hardships or loss we have to continue - finding a will to continue
- Not knowing whats going to happen to us
- freddie mercury wrote this song with the knowledge that he was eventually going to succumb to aids, but he didn't let it bring him down and continued to put on a smile

The show must go on instantly asks us what we are living for and what we are looking for. It follows with telling us 'the show must go on.' The show is a metaphor for life and the song tells us life must go on. Freddie Mercury lived through this song, writing it the year he died from aids. Despite being diagnosed with aids years earlier, he didn't hesitate and continued to live his life, making the show go on. It also discusses not knowing what is going to happen to us.

Blink 182 - 'No Future'
- Don't waste your life, every moment is important
- Life won't stop or wait for you

'No Future' discusses was the importance of wasting time, telling us life is worth so much more. There are many references to having 'no future'.

Kiera

Reaper
- Don't fear death
- A new start after death
The show must go on
- life must continue no matter what
- although he does not know the purpose of life, he must live on
- no matter what suffering exists life will still go on
No Future
- life won't wait for you
- life will still go on, it won't stop for you
- it wont go back in time for you
- life does not care about how you feel, it will still continue no matter what

The main point of these three songs is to point out that life won't wait for you, no matter what is done death will eventually come, no one can do anything to stop that. So why not live your life how you want, no fearing anything, living life to the fullest because life won't wait for you, it won't be considerate about how you feel on death, it'll just continue on everyday.

Felicity

The reaper
- its is as if the song is saying that there is an afterlife.
- the mention of eternity and that why fear death when you can embrace it starting a new chapter in "the afterlife".
- the mention of Romeo and Juliet (which are both dead) being together for eternity within the song in a way glorify death bringing the thought that death brings you and you lost loved ones back together again.
- the use of the word "reaper" symbolises death.
The show must go on
- the title symbolises that human life and nature continues to grow after the death of someone.
- what are we living for?
- the song shows a more negative approach to death as it mentions "inside my heart is breaking" revealing that there is a facade hiding the hurt and sorrow that the person is feeling. this is also showed when "My makeup may be flaking, But my smile, still, stays on" going along the lines of putting up a facade for others to see.
No future
- the song refers to not wasting life as it mentions "life's worth so much more"

Sarah

the reaper refers to death as something to not be scared of instead we should be excited for the new begins it can bring. it also talks about how the afterlife is somewhere you can be with your loved ones for eternity. As it states we shouldn’t be scared instead we should be happy about what the future holds

the show must go on talks about whether or not anyone really knows what happens after death. This revels the fear of the unknown and how it can become scary for some people. with this in mind it also states that you need to live your life no matter what. when this song was written he discovered that he was dying. Throughout the song the reference to death is followed by how you must face death head on, this fighting power in life helps us to make most out of life no matter what.
Sophie Hunter
