The second of the three was for land, there was much more land and better soil, also they could just have it for free or buy it for cheap. The final reason was to get away from what they didn't like, the politics, the critics. They just wanted to get away.

Yes, I would travel west. Not just for the gold but also so that me and my family would have more food to eat.
