I've always had the idea in the back of my mind to make a piece that involves multiple separate pieces of paper but all very similar in design. The nature exploration came into play with the three different flowers which were meant to look loose and gestural, not too perfect or planned. I went back in and highlighted the petals to add dimension and layers. I also decided to add the white horizontal lines because without them, it seemed as if something were missing. 

One success of this project was working with watercolors and my experience. I had worked with watercolor before but this time I was able to paint with it with less water so it was thicker and darker in color. I liked the outcome of using the water color as more of a regular paint because it allowed me to create highlights on the flower petals and depth.

From this project I learned that I need to take my time more. I'm often in a rush to finish and see the final outcome. As seen in the white horizontal lines, they aren't very straight. I started by painting the building and ground with acrylic paint. I added little people in an impressionistic style - very light and not defined. After finishing the foreground I focused on the sky and tried to depict a stormy night with oil paint (which I've never used before but enjoy it. It's very easy to blend compared to acrylic paint.) Some struggles of this piece was the ground and creating a mirrored/rainy effect as well as depth. The size of the people helped to create depth but the light on the ground was hard to make look natural. Something that was easy was the sky - the oil paint was very simple to get a smooth texture and look. However, as I added layers and other colors it became hard to cover the white of the canvas. I was inspired by an image (shown on the right) of a man with bold black and white lines behind him and bright colored flowers coming out of his hat. To start, I put tape on my paper and painted over with black so when the tape was removed it left stripes. I also wanted to somehow include the marbled paper in a collage formate which is when I decided to create a large moon and mountains. The plain white stripes behind the moon was too simple so I added in bright sherbet colors and some doodles with a sharpie. I later added light blue/white lines on the top left with acrylic paint over the grid. This helped to balance out the light colors on the right side of the piece.

If I were to go back or if there's any other artists planning on using tape -- make sure you take your time! I rushed the process of taping my piece because I was excited to paint black over it. The moon covers the jumble of tape marks - I didn't take the time to line up and plan where I was exactly placing the tape.

I had fun creating it while using only a pale knife and acrylic paint. I began with the background and used green which morphed into black at the bottom and in terms of the figure I drew inspiration from an image above found online. I like all the colors and how the figure seems disorganized and "un-finished". I decided to add the blue paint drips on the head to add a sense of contrast to the rest of the piece.
