Blood pressure will often increase during pregnancy as the body works to handle an increased blood volume and fluids. What caffeine can do is raise your blood pressure and heart rate even further due to its effect on the sympathetic nerve system, and this puts more of a load on the body and the baby. Caffeine can also reduce your body's ability to absorb iron, which is a mineral in high demand during pregnancy. Your iron stores are also under pressure while breastfeeding.
