The possibility that all the adults are allowed to lie meaning possibly everything he knows could be a lie. That hes only being told what they want him to think. Now I wondering far it will go because there is no doubt in my mind what hes saying is true I mean they think bears and elephants are mythical creatures, they're not allowed to leave and pilots cant fly over the community they clearly don't want the people knowing whats outside of this place so my only wonder is WHY and for HOW long it will stay this way.

When Jonas does his training of Receiver Of Memory he is prohibited to take any medication whatsoever. Jonas questioned if he would have any time for Recreation.

Jonas in now beginning to question if everything that he has been told as a child had been a lie. He was raised with the rule that no one is allowed to lie, yet as he gets his job, he is allowed to, raising suspicion about the other adults and Elders. The Dystopian society is now shining through the once, shallow perceived "perfect community". Whenever Jonas had been chosen to be the new receiver on stage, he had looked out into the crowd, noticing that something had changed for a split second, such as it had with the apple. The thing Jonas had seen was colors, which people in this society cannot see, creating absolutely no diversity between people. This is starting to hint to the readers by the author, that this place has high control on the citizens without them even realizing. As a reader, I'm wondering what is the true reason behind creating this colorless, sameness, and emotionless society.

He also wonders if all adults lie because in his rules of being the Receiver of Memory, he sees that the last rule is that you may lie. Elements of a dystopian society are being revealed such as total control over everyone which is the committee ruling over and controlling the whole community's lives. Also, the strict rules that the community must follow are hinting that Jonas's community is a dystopian society. The government has complete control over Jonas and all the other citizens. Jonas does not get any recreation time and he is told, where to go, and when to go there. He was not allowed to do something else besides what is on his instruction sheet. Complete government control many people want in a Dystopian society. Also, in the Hunger Games, every district had to do what the capital wanted them to do, and if they did not follow those rules, they were punished. Somethings that stuck out to me were, has anyone done something else instead of doing what is on their instruction card? How has everyone done what the government has told them without question? Do any of them want a sense of individuality?

Jonas is beginning to question if everyone has always been deceiving him and lying to him because in his folder was a set of rules and instructions for him to follow regarding his selection as the Receiver of Memory. One of the instructions was "You may lie", and this makes Jonas question if everyone received this exception. He also wondered if that, if he asked, he would even receive the true answer because they may be able to lie.
2. Some elements of a dystopian society present in the community are the lack of independence of the citizens, like how they don't choose their spouse, job, or even how many children they have. Another example of dystopian characteristics is the "release" of citizens. It's not the fact that they are being released that is troubling, its the fact that no one knows where you go when you are released.
3. As a reader, I wonder what it means to be the Receiver of Memory, and why Jonas will feel physical pain as a result of his training. I also wonder why he is allowed to break so many of the community's rules and ignore some of their traditions.

1- Jonas is beginning to question if his parents are telling the truth. He doesn’t know if his parents were told that they were allowed to lie also. 2- Their jobs are given to them by the leader of the community. That means that they are controlled by someone. Jonas is told that he is allowed to lie, but he is told not to tell anyone about it. This means he is keeping secrets, and if certain secrets get out then it could lead to something bad, and the leaders shouldn’t be keeping secrets from the community. 3- Was everyone allowed to lie now. Should the receiver of memory be the most important assignment or should it be a disgrace because the failed receiver was a disgrace. Also if the failed receiver was a disgrace, what does that say about the committee and their selection.

Jonas is started to question if anyone else has gotten the "you may lie" in their instructions folder as he had gotten. He's wondering if any adults in the community had this option also. I think that one factor of a dystopian society that is being added is the overwhelming amount of control that the elders have on the community. As a reader I do wonder why they are so strict and hard on the community and espcially on the assignments, they treat the assignments as something very important I wonder why.

Jonas is beginning to question if all adults lie, what kind of pain will he have, why can he lie. The elements of dystopia added into the plot by the author can be shown when the rules he was givein says he can lie but noone else can. Also he can ask a question and they have to give an awser. That is unjust and unfair. i wonder if Jonas will end up breaking free.
