In this story a girl, Little Scarface, is physically and mentally abused by her older sister. The reason she is called Little Scarface is because her sister would burn her with fire constantly. Her older sister believed that she will one day marry the Hidden One and believes she was worthy enough to marry him. When the older sister showed up it was proven that she was not worthy enough. Little Scarface then tries her hand and goes to see the Hidden one. She is proven worthy because she is pure of heart and brave. The Hidden One's sister the Patient one then cleanses Little Scarface with magic water that clears all her burn scars. In this story a girl by the name of Yen-Shen who lives with her father, step-mother, and step-sister. Her stepmother isn't too fond of Yeh-shen because she is naturally beautiful, so she treats her like less. Yeh-Shen goes out every day to feed the fish. When the stepmother found out about this she killed the fish. While be distraught about the death of the fish an old wise man comes up to Yeh-Shen and tells her that the bones of the fish are filled with a powerful spirit and will give her what her heart desires once. Yeh-shen wants to go to the spring festival in hopes of meeting a husband so she saves the bones until then. When the day comes she wishes that she had attire to go and it is granted to her. While there, Yeh-Shen sprints off in a hurry and leaves one of her slipper behind. The king then buys the slipper from the merchant and goes on a search to find the owner. When Yeh-Shen tries to steal the slipper back he discovers it is her who owns the slipper and the two end up happily married.
