A skill I imagine bringing is empathy and patience. It is really important to consider all facets of a patient's identity when helping them. Additionally, remaining patient and realizing that not everyone is the same is something that I will definitely take into account.

A skill I imagine I will bring with me whether it be working in healthcare or some other field is being able to fully understand from a medical anthropologist perspective where the population or community I am working with is coming from. Taking into account lots of determinants to this patients health and acknowledging these factors that may impact their health.

I don't contribute much to any anthropological field unfortunately. However I love to mediate and find common ground, so possibly something in the field as a healthcare worker helping find ways to mesh global health with local customs and traditions. I don't do well with hands off researching work, so I would be much better off with physical and tangible work in places that need what I can offer.

As someone who hopes to one day work in the medical field, I will bring an awareness of how ones health is not always due to personal choice but often comes down to opportunity, access, or economic/class status. Having this awareness allows medical professionals to offer more compassionate and realistic care to patients. I also learned a lot about the cultural aspects of attitudes towards medicine and care, and how one's life experience and how they are viewed by the medical system has an impact on the level of care they have access to or the confidence they have in medical care. I foresee practicing the skills of active listening and incorporation of patient needs and professional advice as a healthcare worker. Medical Anthropology has taught me the many ways in which the healthcare system fails to provide for all in an equal and efficient manner. I believe I would take the lessons learned in this class to gain a more critical lens towards injustice, and work towards contributing to a more inclusive future. By understanding the issues that come with being a part of the country but being of lower priority to those with higher power, I will strive to bring forth change in any way I can.

I think being creative + innovative would be a really important skill to bring when navigating medical systems as an activist and bridging the inequalities. I recently learned about the death rates of pre-mature births being super high in South Africa. Companies would send incubators to combat this problem, and while it did save many lives, after a few years of use, when the incubator broke - these communities lacked the knowledge, skills, and equipment to repair this machine. They do however have the infrastructure to keep cars running and on the roads. So, recently, engineers designed an incubator for pre-mature babies made entirely of automobile parts. Communities in these places can now fix these machines with all the equipment they currently have, and need only the knowledge of changing a headlight. I think it is bioengineering and thinking outside of the box as innovators that we can really address the inequalities and bring healthcare to call.

I think a skill that I can imagine bringing to a job as a healthcare worker while navigating the medical systems as an advocate is having background knowledge of health and the way it works but also understanding the different ideals that others have regarding health, and the way it affects them. I think while already have a sense of knowledge on the topic, this class has helped me expand it to a more deeper level and I believe it will help me navigate my time as a healthcare worker. - Jocelyn

An analytic skill I will be taking with me into my future working in healthcare will definitely be problem solving and finding alternative solutions in patient care. There are lots of health inequalities in this world and it is crucial to help people that are facing health disparities. An analytical or practical skill I plan to bring with me as I hope to enter the healthcare field includes the importance of perspective. After this class, I came to understand just how much experience shapes one's perspective especially when regarding feelings towards healthcare and health inequalities. It's vital to take into account people's experiences globally, in order to assess for patterns and to truly understand the root of many problems. I hope that when entering the healthcare field I can focus upon how experience can influence health and assess situations adequately.

With all of the great lessons obtained from this class, I believe I would be more mindful towards health as I progress into the healthcare industry. In the past, when I wasn't as informed about the inequalities of the healthcare system, or the barriers that obstruct individuals from obtaining healthcare. Now I feel more considerate towards everyone because everyone might have some difficulties to gain healthcare.

The one skill I would bring with me is being able to work with local leaders in communities to identify gaps in the health care system. This would help identify the problems within a healthcare system and improving overall a communities' quality of life.

The skills I imagine bringing with me are creativity and active listening. I believe it is crucial to be creative when facing challenges in the healthcare sector. For instance, every patients have different experiences and needs, and I can be innovative when treating different patients, which is crucial. Being an active listener is also very important in my opinion. Listening to the needs and issues patients face often provide a more in depth understanding of how us as providers can offer a solution.
