They had to make it to the mountains before the snow came and if they didn't they would be stuck in the mountains and wouldn't be able to make it. People saved for 6 years to make  that and  trip and some people died.  The trail was a very long trail and they had to walk 6,000 miles to get their. Then all the prices went up for things there but people still bought it. People were taking chances to go west to California to try and get rich but 1 out of 1000 people were finding gold. Soon people from china that are in debt came and they started looking for gold. The american people were getting mad at the Chinese people for having better mining teachiques than the american's. They banned anymore Chinese people to come and soon Chinese people were getting mistreatead and they were killing native american's and running settlers out of their land. The settler had to travel all the way to Washington to have a trial over there land and they couldn't make it their before there land was tooken.
