Article analysis is a process that involves comparing two articles in terms of their similarities and differences to determine the well - written article and the worst from the pair. For the purpose of our analysis, we have chosen two articles out of five to discuss. The well- written article entitled A Students' Involvement Encourages Good Grades by Jayna Soliger. The purpose of this article is the correlation between extra-curricular activities and good grades than those who are not involved in activities. Next, the poor written article entitled The Importance of Extracurricular Activities for Teens that is has no author. It discusses the important of each high school to join extracurricular activities that can lead them to get students' success. In order to compare the two articles, the elements of clarity, evidence, opposing view point, and logical order.

This article is very precise in an organized manner with complete matters and facts that determine it is a well-written article. This article discussed about how extracurricular activities is importance for teens. The first element that will be discussed is clarity. Clarity in writing is when readers are able to understand the messages and the intentions of the authors. In the first article, which is the well-written article, the purpose of the article is stated by Jayna Solinger clearly at the beginning of the article, which she wrote "The purpose of this report is to illustrate that teens that are involved in extra-curricular activities generally get higher grades than those who are involved in activities." The purpose is easy to be understand and it is easier to be detected by the reader. For the second article, the poorly-written article, the purpose of the article is not stated clearly by the author, where the author only explained "However, there is another more playful component of a well-rounded education - outside the regular academic program - that may positively students' success. Extracurricular activities, such as basketball, baseball, tennis, debating, chess clubs, student government, yearbook, drama, choir and computer clubs can round out students' academic careers to great effect." While we can get a general idea of the article, it is still hazy and difficult to understand as it is jumbled up in the article. The author jumped to the topic without giving any of his intention to write the article. Thus, it is evident that Jayna has managed to provide enough clarity in her article that makes it worthy of being categorised as a well-written article, much compared to the latter.

They also said that " Parents spend a lot of time encouraging their teens to study  more and play less in the pursuit of this goal". This contradict with the statement that made in the same paragraph which is they stated that they believe that " Extracurricular activities, such as basketball, baseball, tennis, debating, chess  clubs, student government, yearbook, drama, choir and computer clubs can round out students' academic  careers to great effect". Therefore , it is proven that article that made by Jayna Solinger is well written than the unknown author .

One of the significant standards to determine a well-written paper is clarity. Clarity existed when thinking easy to follow whereby in the written paper should be each paragraph should make just a single clear theme. According to the well-written article, the purpose of the paper are demonstrably by Jayna to illustrate that teens that are involved in extracurricular activities generally get higher grades than those who are not. Jayna also claimed that there are three main reasons that involved in extracurricular activities leads to better grade which are the organizational skills that students has, the parent’s involvement with their students, and the need of the individual students has to excel. Each paragraphs was elaborated clearly by Jayna. Meanwhile for the poor written-article, the contents are not well-constructed in each paragraphs. Therefore, it is rigid to understand due to unclear arrangements. It is because this paper started the paragraphs with weak topic sentences and not straightforward. For example, in paragraph seven, it started by asking question instead of strong content.

Meanwhile the poorly written article, the author failed to provide the purpose of the writing.for instance “Extracurricular activities, such as basketball, baseball, tennis, debating, chess

clubs, student government, yearbook, drama, choir and computer clubs can round out students' academics. Thus his writing is solely addressing examples rather than explaining them. As a result, readers will have difficulty in understanding the author.

Thus, it is evident that Jayna Solinger has managed to provide enough clarity in his article that makes it

worthy of being categorized as a well-written article, much compared to the latter.

For the first article by Jayna Solinger is a well-written because it has clear main point and make the reading easier. For example, the article provide subtopic for each paragraph to ease the reader to know and understand what exactly the paragraph is about. Moreover, the second article is from online sources and it had no authors. So it is poorly written because it mix up the main point in one paragraph and make the reader hard to understand and confused to identify the content. For instance, in paragraph 6, it had two main points in one paragraph which make the reader had to read multiple times in order to understand the content. Therefore, it is proven that the first article have the characteristic to be well written meanwhile the second article does not fulfill the requirement.
