African Americas moved from the south to the more rural areas because they realized that if they remained in the south they would never be able to get their basic freedoms such as voting, because of Jim Crow laws which made it so that they had to take a test to be able to vote, and also organizations such as the KKK which used fear to stop African Americas from voting and doing other things.

During the Harlem Renaissance one of the things that was revitalized was music and some categories of this are Jazz, Swing, and the Blues. These types of music were revitalized and created during this period because it gave a view of how they felt and it allowed them to be able to show other people what it was like to go through the experiences that they had to go through.

Art during the Harlem Renaissance was used to empower the people and it let people show their emotions during this time, it also was used to show families and communities that they had made. Many of the works that were made still have not been published because they were lost throughout the years and may have been destroyed from previous altercations such as the KKK and other racist organizations. William Henry Johnson, palmer Hayden, and Archibald Motley were some artist of this time.

This is a time that the African American community is growing in their intellectual capabilities by building schools and having all these freedoms for education that they have never had before and it is beginning to show in some parts. it was difficult at the beginning because so few African Americans had the knowledge to be able to teach the younger generation, but as time went on it got easier because they were able to use more previous knowledge to teach the new people. People that had an influence over the education that these new communities are getting are Langston Hughes who is the author of many famous poems such as "Dream Differed", "Not Without Laughter", and "I, Too". Some other important people for this section of the Harlem renaissance is Zora Neale Hurston, Claude McKay, and Countee Cullen.
