Morse code was named after one of the inventor, Samuel Morse. Before telephones was invented, messages and information was hard to be communicated around. Hence morse code was invented, whereby dots and dashes are used to represent different alphabet and numbers.
When these dots and dashes are put together, it can be deciphered and the message can be brought across.

Usually, morse code is transmitted through the use of sounds; short beep for a dot, long beep for a dash. In conclusion, I think Morse Code is one of the very noble and useful (at least during the previous world wars) invention. Important messages can be relayed around without the use of physical communication or words. Through the use of sound/light, the message can be brought across as well.

It is evident that even with our modern 21th century technology, these can't beat the old school communication system, the Morse Code. 

This video below, shows a US prisoner of was held captive in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was forced by the captors to appear on a televised propaganda interview which was broadcast in the United States. While being interviewed and answering their questions, POW Rear Admiral Jeremiah Denton blinked his eyes,  communicated the letters, 
T-O-R-T-U-R-E. US intelligence managed to catch that signal and learnt that many POWs was being tortured. Under immense pressure from local officials, Denton managed to recall the Morse Code and successfully passed a vital information to the world.

Yesterday, while researching about the morse code, i came across a simple yet intriguing way to hide messgages. It is called the "Caeser Cipher", and as the name suggests, was invented by Julius Caeser invented when he mailed letters so that if the messenger was robbed, the robber would not be able to read the message.

Basically, It works like this : whatever you read, move it back in the alphabet by 3 letters. Hence, the letter "a" would actually be letter "x".
