The poem was more impactful to me because it showed the effects of the word on a child. That one word ruined his memory of an entire 7 months of his life. 7 months that should have been a happy memory, but now are associated with a very negative experience. The poem made me think of the effects that word has on people more than the article which mostly just gave facts about it.

I think that the poem was more impactful because you get to see the perspective of someone who experienced something, rather than someone reacting to the subject. I feel it is more impactful to see how someone was affected by the usage of the word, rather than someone evaluating it. The poem highlights how one word can have a lasting impacting on one's life, and got the point across much clearer than the article, in my opinion. The usage of just one word ruined an entire memory for one child. This stuck with me much more than the article. The poem was personal and specific to one person's feelings, while the article was impartial, and void of much emotion. The article was more factual, which made it interesting to read, but not as impactful. For these reasons, I think that the poem was more impactful than the article.

I feel that the poem is more impactful, because unlike the article, it gives an emotional insight as to the way black people feel about the n-word's use. No matter its many uses and origins, the n-word is mostly used in vein, and this poem truly showed how an innocent black may feel towards people (usually white people) who use the word. Based on the mood of this poem, the little boy was clearly scared by this word. It goes to show how powerful this one word is.

Although this may be beneficial to a class, the poem created an emotional connection as it was written by someone who wants to share their own experience and feelings, which for me made more of an impact as it is personal and specific.

The poem was much more impactful to me, personally because the changing in tone due to that word, makes me realize how much of an impact that words gives to people when they say it. While the essay does a very good job in informing us about the subject, the way the poem expresses the issue and the fact that it gives us a first person view of the issue, (in my opinion) works much better in the long run.

Most words in any language can be used positively and negatively depending on the context. But, in my opinion the n-word is one of the few words that immediately creates a negative vibe by itself. Also, childhood memories are supposed to bring joy to one's thoughts. But, this horrible word did quite the opposite.

I feel this way because the poem showed the author's emotions about the racial slurs people say to other people, but the article was mostly facts. When reading both of them the fact-filled article was more of an educational read then an impactful read. The poem on the other hand was shocking and filled with meaningful messages. The poem showed the lasting impression the n-word leaves on people and how memorable one word, event, or experience can be and how it can completely change how you were feeling or thinking. This shows that in my opinion the poem was more impactful.

The poem was more impactful to me because of the effect of the word on a young child. The poem was creating an emotional connection between the reader and the person in the poem. The use of the n-word goes against the initial tone of the poem. The way the word effected this young child for the rest of his life was more impactful than a description of the history of the word. The interaction was short and probably did not last longer than a minute, was the only thing this boy remembered from an eight month trip.
