Last June 2022, Adrenaline Solutions had a Leadership Retreat in Davao. The team, together with the founders, spent a few days talking about coaching, leadership, and their shared love for sports. To know more about this exciting trip, we interviewed 2 of our own team members, Kyra Dimaandal from the Content Development Team, and Eureka Quinto, our Director of Business Operations.

What’s the most memorable moment of the trip?
Kyra: The most memorable moment of our trip was the whole day's activities for the leadership retreat at Seda Hotel. It made us reflect on our roles in Adrenaline Solutions and the role of the company in sports and the world. It was impactful, especially in defining what Adrenaline Solutions is all about.

Eurie: Taking a small boat to go to Samal Island and then spending time on a very chill beach environment to discuss work and future plans of the organization. It’s a work-cation where conversations led to brainstorming or discussing ideas. It was such a breath of fresh air to be able to be productive and get to know the leaders of the organization including a champ like Akiko Thompson. It made me realize that I really like the freedom you get in an online business setup; although there are challenges in running a tighter ship because control is not definite unlike having a physical office where people work together on certain hours. Nevertheless, I think it’s a blessing that we can work anywhere.

Do you have any place in the Philippines that you want to visit in the future?
Kyra: Palawan :)

Eurie: Not a particular place but I want to be able to spend some time being a nomadic worker, just like what Marc is doing right now. In my case, I want to see Mindanao. It seems so far away. I want to explore the beauty of it– its forests and beaches. The culture could be interesting and different from someone who grew up in Luzon. This is something I cannot freely do at the moment because I have a little one. Maybe in the future.

Can you share an experience with a sports leader that you met on the retreat?
Kyra: I was able to converse with Giovanni Gulanes (Provincial Sports Director of Davao del Norte) and his plans for his region. They have successfully implemented a sports-centered academy while also maintaining world-class facilities. The Davao del Norte sports program is undoubtedly one of the leading programs in the Philippines and is a great model for others regarding sustainability and progression in sports.

Eurie: First, it was a very humbling experience to spend time with Akiko Thompson and to get to know her as a person. Growing up, she was always in my school textbooks and in the news. And then, I also really enjoyed my time with our CEO, Marc. Having that 1 on 1 time to discuss projects, team members, and plans with one of our visionaries over breakfast is such a cool experience. I think I want to highlight Coach Noli in this Davao trip. It was nice to see him in his element during dinner with movers and shakers in Mindanao sports.

What’s your key takeaway from the event?
Kyra: Your ‘why’ is what will bring you to your best self, with the right people.

Eurie: My personal reflection about this is that AS has a good culture and that culture comes from the top. Here we have company founders really doing their best to engage with their team members. They make sure that they can build a good working relationship with the people in the organization. We have a very refreshing and open circle leadership. It levels the playing field, it makes our founders and organization more authentic. It really shows that Adrenaline Solutions cares for its people.

The monthly AS Friday of the company took place last July 1 that was attended by both the founders and team members. Guests, Russel Raypon and Anahit Hovhannisyan attended the gathering, gracing the members with their presence.

Russel Raypon is a qualified school psychologist in California. For over 20 years, he has been coaching basketball to the youth, high school basketball teams, collegiate players, nurses, rocket scientists, epidemiologists, and even NBA champions. Coach Russel takes pride in both the personal and professional successes of his pupils from then to now.

Anahit Hovhannisyan is a project manager from Armenia. She studied in an American school and in Europe, and highly values knowledge and uses it as a guide in her life. Anahit is interested in learning the aspects and techniques in am business which led her to work in different business positions.

During the sharing, it was discovered that Anahit was a renowned chess player when she was young. She shared that she started chess because it was a popular sport in Armenia to the point where it was a mandatory class in their schools. This piqued the interest of the team members and they proceeded to ask more questions about chess and Anahit’s experience of almost going pro when she was young. Anahit also expressed how much she likes the time she spent in the company due to its nature, services, and work environment.

On the other hand, Coach Russel shared his experiences in his role as a school psychologist which involves supporting his family, colleagues, students, players, and event person with disabilities. He also shared that his greatest skill is problem-solving as he is able to pin down the problem areas and proceed to give a solution fitting to the situation. With that, the team members naturally became curious about how he works with people and how he applies what he learns from his job. As the conversation went on, everyone also got to meet Max, his furry best friend.

The AS Friday continuously proves the growth of the company and how it values relationship building within and outside the organization.
