The most valuable piece of information that has really helped me learn how to effectively make career decisions was the decision making traps. Many times in the past in which I have had to make a final decision on something important such as what curriculum I will be picking for school for high school. It was a big debate on whether I should continue on British curriculum or switch to IB. In the end I had chosen A-levels but I'm still unsure as to whether I made the right decision. In this case, I did unfortunately end up falling for the Sunk Cost Trap. Although this is the most obvious one, I have yet to find what other traps I have fallen in to and how I can prevent them from happening again when I t comes to picking my university of choice.

One thing that really made me rethink my decision making skills was stage four of decision making: the traps. After this module, I am now aware of the many traps that influence decision making and how they trick your mind into making a decision that could potentially not be the best for you. In addition, another thing that really stuck in my mind was the vendiagram that helps to make a decision in your career including interest, experience and values. I think that this stuck with me immensely as it made me rethink my decision for my career and after really thinking about it, made me reassured of my career decision as my decision fits with all three categories. I really enjoyed this module and I believe that this knowledge will definitely stick with me until the times comes to make these types of decisions and I am happy to be aware and informed on how to make that decision properly.

During the career decisions module I enjoyed the debate, I was able to visualise the different opinions that people may have for certain career options. One the most useful things i learnt was the decision making traps because many people fall into the norms during decision making, and learning different traps allows me to avoid them in the future when i have a dilemma.
another thing that i found useful was the Venn diagram, because it really made me think about what my interests, experiences and values are and it puts things in my perspective. The rule of thumb was an important trap because it shows me that many people choose the easier option when making a decision

Decision making needs to be decided by me. It is ok to get opinions on third parties, but the decision cannot be pushed by them. Just because everyone says A is right, it doesn't mean you have to pick A. You can pick B if you still think B is better for you. I think the key point of decision making is to not be forced on choosing your decisions.

I have learnt that parents should not overly affect your decision. right now, I have to pick my GCSE options, and i had most of my subjects picked out. However, I couldn’t decide between doing economics and drama, as my mom had been enthusiastic about me doing economics, and so was I, but my passion had lied in drama ever since a young age. Eventually, I had picked economics over drama due to the sunk cost trap and decision paralysis, and even factoring in the future and my parents values. This thought had overcome me, and it was the only thing I could think about, so there was a lot of pressure going into the decision.

The most prominent and crucial factor I learnt today that will definitely be relevant to me will be the ‘Recall ability Trap’ mainly because it is obvious that recent events impact ones mindset and decision making and giving too much importance to that can highly impact an individual. Personally, I have unfortunately decided to not participate in many areas due to different individuals outcomes which I shouldn’t do.

During the career decisions module, I have realised that I need to make sure the career decisions I make is based on my interests, my experience and my values and not my friends or my family, as I tend to fall into that trap because I trust the people that are close to me tremendously. I also learned that people work for money and if your dream company is paying you less than another company it’s ok to reach out with the other company’s offer as money is important at the end of the day and people shouldn’t be ashamed. Lastly is I learnt that your values mean a lot more that I thought of before, if you work for someone that believes the complete opposite of what you do, you won’t be motivated to work for them even if the salary may be better.
