Algunas están bastante extendidas, otras confinadas a una única región de Perú.
De todas las lenguas nativas, cuatro se hablan en los Andes. Las otras 43 se hablan (sobre todo) en la Amazonía.
Entre las primeras destaca el quechua, que es la más hablada del país, seguida por el aymara.
