The U.S. has been working towards strengthening our ties with Cuba since 2014. Over the years we have made agreements with them for them to help us with organized crime and for them to allow American diplomats to engage with the Cuban people. More recently in February of 2016 we held a dialogue to further expand our implementation of U.S. policies in Cuba. In march we had our first mail flight that went to Cuba. Last month Obama went to Cuba to express his condolences and try to keep the peace between the two nations who for so long have hated each other.

Castro and his followers arrived in Cuba in December 1956 to unseat the current Dictator leader Batista. At that time the United States backed up Batista, Castro's following and ideals grew bigger due to the corrupt and unstable form of governing by Batista. In the late 1950's Castro's following kept increasing as so did Batista's corruption, the US backed off support for Batista. On January 1st, 1959, Batista and several of his followers fled from Cuba and that was when Castro and his guerrillas marched triumphantly matched through Havana.

This event was on behalf of CIA trained and financed group of Cuban refugees who planned to overthrow Fidel Castro on April 17, 1961. The U.S. was growing concerned with the new ruler in Cuba and when they found out that Castro was planning to make alliances with the Soviet Union, that's when we felt we had to intervene. It was a complete failure since our troops were easily killed, Castro's army was too strong for us.

Cuban Missile

After Cuba was under Castro's power, Cuba relied on the Soviet Union for military aid. At that time the USA and the Soviet Union were engaged in the cold war with one another. The US was informed about a Soviet missile being assembled for installation in Cuba, this raised concerns that the missiles were being assembled so close to US territory. On October 28 after several face offs the United States and the Soviet Union came to terms to remove missiles from Cuba if the United States didn't invade Cuba and also remove their missiles from Turkey.

In this event on April 20, 1980, Castro decided to let Cubans leave the island if they had someone pick them up west of the Havana. In total there were 125,000 Cuban refugees that fled Cuba and emigrated to the United States. 27 immigrants died on the boat because many of them were being overcrowded. It was not a happy ending for them because mostly all of them were caught and sent to deportation centers and held there until they were sent back to Cuba, the one place they were fleeing from.
