Over the years we have made agreements with them for them to help us with organized crime and for them to allow American diplomats to engage with the Cuban people. More recently in February of 2016 we held a dialogue to further expand our implementation of U.S. policies in Cuba. In march we had our first mail flight that went to Cuba. At that time the United States backed up Batista, Castro's following and ideals grew bigger due to the corrupt and unstable form of governing by Batista. In the late 1950's Castro's following kept increasing as so did Batista's corruption, the US backed off support for Batista. At that time the USA and the Soviet Union were engaged in the cold war with one another. The US was informed about a Soviet missile being assembled for installation in Cuba, this raised concerns that the missiles were being assembled so close to US territory. In total there were 125,000 Cuban refugees that fled Cuba and emigrated to the United States. 27 immigrants died on the boat because many of them were being overcrowded.
