The American Dream is the belief that anyone in the United States can work hard and have the opportunity to achieve success, happiness, and a better life. It is the idea that you can start with little and, through determination and effort, improve your circumstances, provide for your family, and fulfill your personal goals and dreams. The American Dream often involves having a good job, owning a home, and enjoying a comfortable and prosperous life.

My definition of the American Dream would be to be richer and fuller in life. You have to work hard for your American Dream, it takes dedication and hard work. Personally I would want to own a house and have a wife and kids and to just be happy.

AD song- Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z

The song “Empire State of Mind” defends my thesis because Jay-Z Put in the work and effort to make a change in his life. If he never decided to change how things were, he would have never become famous and would have never fulfilled his dreams. One lyric that supports my thesis would be “In New York (ayy, ah-ha) (uh, yeah) Concrete jungle (yeah) where dreams are made of There's nothin' you can't do”. This lyric supports my thesis because Jay-Z is saying how there are endless possibilities in New York city. Another lyric that supports my thesis would be “Yeah, I'm out that Brooklyn, now i’m out in Tribeca”. Jay-Z is saying that he used to live in Brooklyn but got away from that in order to achieve success

AD Book reference- "The Distance Between Us" by Reyna Grande

"The Distance Between Us" is a memoir written by Reyna Grande, which recounts her experiences growing up in poverty in Mexico and her journey to the United States. In the book, Grande's family's decision to cross the border and pursue a better life in the United States exemplifies their desire to access opportunities that were limited in their home country. They risked everything for a chance at a better future, embodying the idea of pursuing opportunities to achieve success. Reyna Grande and her family face poverty, separation, and the challenges of living as undocumented immigrants. Despite these hardships, the book showcases their resilience, perseverance, and determination to improve their circumstances. Their journey illustrates the American Dream as a belief that one can overcome adversity through hard work and determination. Overall, "The Distance Between Us" supports the American Dream by depicting the pursuit of opportunities, the importance of education and upward mobility, overcoming adversity, and the challenges of cultural assimilation.

AD Article- "The American Dream is Alive and Well" by Samuel J. Abrams

The article i chose supports my thesis because the article talks about what Americans think the American Dream is. The article states "Collectively, 82 percent of Americans said they were optimistic about their future, and there was a fairly uniform positive outlook across the nation" (Abrams). The quote from the article supports my thesis because the majority of people believe that they have a bright future meaning that the American dream is still alive and well. If the American Dream wasn't alive, then people wouldn't be hopeful of their futures. Another example from the article i chose is "When Americans were asked what makes the American dream a reality, they did not select as essential factors becoming wealthy, owning a home or having a successful career. Instead, 85 percent indicated that “to have freedom of choice in how to live” was essential to achieving the American dream" (Abrams). Americans think the American Dream is about having a nice family and being stable which is a completely understandable dream to accomplish and everyone in America can achieve that therefore the American Dream is still alive and well in today's age.
