How can we use student reflection?

Student reflection is as vital as teacher reflection. Student reflection should be encouraged often; for my English learners, encouraging this at least once a week would be an informal way to measure growth in language acquisition.

Fit it in wherever/whenever you can! It does not always need to use technology. You could dedicate one specific time a week until you get the hang of it.

Use student reflection to foster other indirect learning skills, such as metacognition and critical thinking.

We want student reflection during and after an activity - for example students can self-assess as they are working through an assignment to see what they need to change before they submit a final project; they can also reflect afterwards. When to fit it in - whenever possible! Time is precious in the classroom. We can use student reflection in order to find out how to change our lesson/teaching style to best fit our students' needs.

Student reflection is essential throughout all learning experiences. We can use reflections to get an in depth understanding of how our students have processed the information they are working with. We can also use reflection to understand where we need to go as teachers.
