He died December 20,1968. He was an american author of 27 books,including 16 novel 6 non-fiction and 5 collections of short stories 

Born february 27 , 1902 in Salinas California
Most of his work set was in the southern and central california. works frequently explored the themes of fate and injustice
After the first 75 years he sold 15 million copies,he was a winner of the 1962 nobel prize in literature 

In 1925 he went to New York where he tried for a few years to establish himself as a freelance writer but he failed and returned to California . 

He worked his way through college but never graduated college at Stanford . 

He graduated from Salinas high school in 1919 and went to study English Literature at Standfords   

He is german,english and irish descent
