Activity description:
Students will become explorers of the universe and learn how to send “messages from space” using Morse code. After a short introduction about the history and use of Morse code in communication, children will practice encoding simple words (STEAM, STAR, EARTH, PEACE) through combinations of short and long signals. They will complete unplugged exercises on paper and then transfer their messages into digital activities (Scratch/Code.org) or use applications that simulate Morse transmissions.

At the end, partner schools from the eTwinning project “Explorers of the Universe – Journey among the Stars” will exchange coded messages. Students will decode the messages and discover what their European friends wanted to share. Results will be displayed on Padlet/TwinSpace.

Activity Description:
Students become little space explorers who must save a lost spaceship by sending and receiving coded messages in Morse code.
They learn how to transmit information over long distances without using words – only through dots, dashes, light, and sound – just like satellites or space crews on cosmic missions.

Organized in teams, the children decode SOS messages received from a “lost spaceship,” then create their own response message using Morse code with drawn symbols.
The activity combines logical thinking, teamwork, and knowledge about space communication.

During the activity, the students learned about Morse code symbols, how to write them, and explored practical examples.

It was a lively and enjoyable activity that allowed the students to discover a part of astronauts’ work in an engaging and inspiring way.

I wrote a simple message on the board and asked my students to encode it.

It was an excellent and well-done work by my creative students, and I am very proud of them 🥰
