Personification, allusion, and irony are all used throughout the poem and correlate to the overall experience of death and how it is received by the person who is dying. It is described how, "The carriage held but just Ourselves-- And Immortality". This is ironic as the general topic of death is mentioned but the mention of immortality is its direct opposite. - Bryce S.

Allusion, death , imagery, and repetition are used to symbolize what affects the reader's opinion and emotion towards the poem's tone and implements ideas into the stanza lines. Repetition of what occurred was simultaneously imagery and allusion as it explained, "We passed the School, where Children strove..." "We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain-- We passed the Setting Sun--" Setting sun and Gazing grain, are allusions, the repetition of passed is described and The imagery is shown through children striving in their youth. - Bryce S.

I think the Overall tone is the feeling of time being paused when death occurs, and the author treats the unexpectedness of death like a horse-drawn carriage. The author in the beginning states "Because i could not stop for death-- He kindly stopped for me--" Which Proves my point that the The tone of it is The feeling of time being paused and the last things she would see before being buried. - Oscar.M

Throughout the Short Poem the story shows death similar to a horse-drawn carriage. Through the Story the phrases "passed" and "we" are used a lot which i think represents a couple things.

1st I believe "passed" is used to represent what the character in the story would see if death would stop for her for a moment before her demise.

2nd "we" is used not because multiple people have this feeling of time paused but because in the beginning of the story the author stated that death kindly waited for her. so i would assume when the word we is used, the author and death itself passes and views these final moments before being gone forever. - Oscar. Emily Dickinson was a very passionate and strong willed writer. Though she would barely leave her room or house and was barely recognized for her work during her time period, she is considered one of the most important figures of American poetry. She wrote over 800 poems which were known to have the most paradoxical of poems and she viewed the color white differently from others in storytelling. Most poets would use white as purity and innocence, but Emily viewed it as intense & fear, while she viewed red as pure and calmness in stories.

Though she was very isolated and unknown she left her mark as one of the most influential poets of American poetry history.
