Teacher Pay must increase. I am losing teachers to SC because they are paying them $15,000 - $20,000 more. Rock Hill is paying beginning teachers $50,000. We are in a teacher shortage because the State is not providing a living wage. It is blowing my mind that SC can pay teachers more than NC.

Would love for Supt. Green to remain mindful and aware of the flexibility which is intended to be part of charter schools in NC. Hopefully DPI can maintain an appropriate level of flexibility - which allows us to innovate as much as possible. I think Shannon Stein's suggestion - coordinating DPI departments - would help to minimize some of the reporting/compliance that we are currently responsible for completing.

I am at a large urban charter. We often collaborate with other charters local to us and some not so local to us. We recognize the power of pooling resources to stretch the dollar. We collaborate for professional development, general information about upcoming monitoring visits and student activities. We have tried to partner with our local traditional public schools. In most cases when we have tried, they weren’t interested. Even when we discovered a leader willing to collaborate it didn’t come to fruition. We set up a summer school collaboration with our local public school that matched our demographics. It never materialized because of the red tape above the school level leader.

We welcome collaborative spaces with our traditional public schools AND charters.
