A leader has to be able to recognize when they are needed in the front of the line and when they can step aside to let others propel the course.

Being able to communicate and collaborate with others may seem rudimentary to some but for a leader, these characteristics must be honed and developed over time. They are not innate as a leader rarely can predict how others will react to new ideas or goals. A leader does, however, have to be flexible and willing to change in order to be successful.

They have to communicate how they want to implement changes or be able to admit that an action will divert everyone away from the end goal. How they articulate this to their followers can be both verbal or non-verbal but an effective leader would be able to do so with ease. They would also be able to come together with their workers and re-build or start over as a team.
