Case 3

Group 2 (Bakytbek Ayaulym,Amantay Albina)

1. What are the key ethical violations committed by the United States Radium Corporation?

Answer: First of all they hid the truth about radium’s danger, they lied to doctors and the public and then they didn’t protect the workers, even though they protected themselves.

2. How did the power imbalance between the company and its employees contribute to the ethical failure?

Answer: 1)The workers were young women with little knowledge or power, also the company was big, rich, and influential.2) The workers trusted their bosses and couldn’t question, refuse orders.

3. Consiser the company's claim that they were unaware of the full extent of the danger. Does this excuse their actions? Why or why not?

Answer:Not at all, because they already knew it was harmful and took safety steps for themselves.Even if they didn’t know everything, they had a duty to test and protect their workers.

4. Who are the stakeholders in this situation, and what were the long-term impacts of the company's decisions on each group?

Answer:The main stakeholders are workers – who lost health and lives. Families – suffered emotionally and financially. Company – made profit at first, but lost reputation and faced lawsuits. Society – learned the truth and demanded stronger safety laws.

5. How would this ethical dilemma be handled differently today, given modern workplace safety regulations and whistleblower protections?

Answer:Nowadays in our society strict workplace safety laws exist. Which means that employers put the health of the workers on the first place. Workers get protective equipment and training before start working.

2nd Case

Sevinch,Aruzhan, Aiym

1.Workers don't have to follow unfair rules and it helps to solve the issue with discrimination because it's wrong

2.Traditions might be bad but fairness makes the company better.

3.Workers feel unmotivated and unhappy, also the reputation of company goes down.

4.Sure, because laws protect employees, without setting a law companies will not change

5. If companies ignore the discrimination - there will problems like unsatisfied workers and company faces with financial losses, also losing the status

Case 4( Rakymbek Nurila,Tolep Nurlygul,Abdildayev Adilbek)

Answers :

1. Yes, government should've immediately inform everything publicly, because human lives were in danger just because government didn't inform anyone for 2 days to preserve their reputation and avoid panic. Which resulted to even worse outcome of health, environmental and social damage.

2. I think Government are the one who should take the blame. During the test, workers had made mistakes, and explosion already happened. The government who decided to hide the truth from the public, and had no action towards evacuating people. Government had all the rights to save people, but they decided to protect their image

3. In such crisis we think that saving lives matters more because they are priceless. In this situation saving money and reputation is immoral.

4. Government and businesses whose mistakes affected people should inform them about it and take full responsibility for it, whether if they have to formally apologise or financially compensate all the damages and medical bills.

Case 1 Ford

1)From our perspective it is a mistake of company's bosses, they chose not to repair it even if there was concerns or possibilities of danger for clients that bought the car.In ethical way they should've put people's lifes above gaining wealth

2)Ford should have paid the $11 per car. Passing the cost to consumers without informing them would have been unfair. Customers believed they were buying a safe car. An ethical company should include safety costs in its production, even if it reduces profit margins.

3)These kind of cases cause loss of life, injuries and reputational damage for the company. For instance we have found the statistics of how many people got injuried or died.https://www.motortrend.com/features/ford-pinto

4)Other companies should learn how it is crucial to put people's lifes above making profit possibly leading to death or injuries as an example Toyota company in KZ.Their cars got their reputation as a reliable cars that will not cause damage for life or environment.
